TMK: TITTIES MONEY KNOWLEDGE
That Muhammad Kid. That’s what they used to call me. Every time I hit a homerun, or struck somebody out, or did something good in a baseball game, they’d say, “That Muhammad kid did so and so.” My pops thought it was funny because it made the white parents upset that a young black boy with Muhammad on the back of his jersey was whooping their children. He started to call me TMK.
I've always rapped under the name TMK. I’ve been rapping since I was 7 or 8, and recording songs since I was 13. When people would ask me what TMK stood for, I told them, “Tittles Money Knowledge.” I didn’t want to tell them the real meaning. I thought long and hard about what I was interested in at the time, and that’s what I came up with. I didn’t want to tell them the real meaning because I didn’t want to put a bad name on Islam. I knew that a Muslim is supposed to be a righteous and honorable person, and I wasn’t living up to that standard. I was living my life being “free” and doing whatever I wanted to do: smoking, getting drunk, stealing, and trying my best to hookup with any girl that wasn’t ugly. Typical lost soul teenager stuff. But that’s just not how Muslims live, and I didn’t want to profess Islam while living such a wicked lifestyle.
When I shifted my focus from baseball to music, hosting shows to promote myself and other artists, I met a guy named "Maze" and went on my first tour where God showed me I was willing to rob someone to fulfill my overwhelming desire to be one of the greatest artists ever. Not only was I not living the life of a Muslim, but I was becoming a snake. I removed myself from the tour, returned home, cut ties with everyone in the music industry and made the decision to righteously develop.
TMK was bound by the chains of his desires, but Allah came in the person of Master Fard Muhammad to remove those chains and help him live up to his real name, Khalil Ooyiman Muhammad.
